Phoenix are a bread of chicken with roosters that can grow a tail 15 - 20 inches or even longer but only during their first year. To maintain these long tails, the birds must be kept up on high roosts with only one female and no other birds. There are many breeds of long tail in Japan. The type of phoenix we have most resembles the Onagadori except these birds in the U.S. rarely get great lengths to their tails.
